Red Foot Tortoises

Chelonoidis carbonarius

"Pistachio & Turbo"

Truth be told these two shelled critters below to my wife and we have not done a video on they as of yet until they get their newly updated larger nature inspired enclosure.

They came to us as almost hatchlings about a year an ago and have been growing steadily.
Their names are Psitachio and Turbo.

They are both captive bred Red Foot tortoises endemic to the savannahs and forest edge of the Amazon basin in South America.

They are medium-sized tortoises attaining an average carapace length of 30 cm (12 in) as adults, but in captivity can often reach over 40 cm (16 in) in size.

They are omnivoroustortoises, consuming a wide assortment of plants, grasses, flowers, fruit and (notably) fungi, as well as the occasional earthworm or other invertebrate.
We feed them daily an offering of organic greens, hay, chopped fruits (strawberries, bananas and watermelon are some of their favourites), mushrooms as well as prepared diets from Zoomed and Mazuri. Also their meals are dusted with calcium, minerals and vitamins.
Seasonally we harvest dandelion leaves and flowers as well as plantain weeds.

Their manageable adult size and quirky behaviours make them incredible specialty pets and can thrive in captivity when all their needs are met.
They require loamy loose substrate with which they can dig, fairly high humidity, shelter, as well as a good quality UVB source.

They are most active at temperatures from 27 to 30 °C (81 to 86 °F). A warmer area of 30 to 31 °C (86 to 88 °F) is recommended, and night temperatures can drop a few degrees lower. We use zoomed and Arcadia heat and light sources for our animals.
